Name: Luke Barnard
Nickname (past or present): Barnardski or BANANArd
What day and time do you present/volunteer on HRC? Tuesday nights, 10pm-midnight
Do you present your own show? Yes
If yes, what is the name and content of your show? The Late One with Luke, playing the best in chilled out music
When did you join Hospital Radio? November 2012 I believe?
What made you choose to volunteer for HRC? My love of radio, presenting and music
What do you enjoy most about HRC? Meeting the patients, brightening their day when they’re stuck in hospital and working alongside some amazing people who also share a love of radio.
Favourite music genre? Any really. Except rap.
First album ever bought (LP or CD) an Elton John Greatest Hits CD. I was 7 OK?
Favourite artist/band/singer? I don’t really have a “favourite” artist. I like a good few.
What is your most influential music memory? Releasing my own charity single in March 2011 to raise money for the relief efforts for the Japanese Earthquakes and Tsunami’s.
Favourite single, 7”,12” or MP3 (for the younger generation)? I have two. Smash Mouth – Allstar (theme tune from Shrek) and The Killers – Mr. Brightside
Biggest artist to inspire you musically and why? Ok, if I’m honest, Elton John. I knew all the words to all of his songs at the age of 8 and performed them all at school and at home.
Best live concert or performance you’ve seen? Blood Brothers. It makes me cry every time.
Away from music, what do you enjoy most? Gaming, making videos and going for bike rides with friends.
What is your current occupation or study status? The College at Braintree
If you were hosting a dinner party, which 5 famous people would you invite (dead or alive)? Tony Blackburn, Stephen Fry, Queen Elizabeth II, Will Smith and Graham Norton. Just imagine the banter! (even with Her Maj)
If you could go back in time, what era would you travel to and why? Probably 90s. So I could be old enough to truly remember the New Years eve of 1999 celebrating the millennium!
What would be your ideal Holiday Destination? Malta, as it was where my Mum and Dad went for their honeymoon. I’ve always wanted to go there.
What would be your perfect Sunday? A long lie-in, a roast dinner and an afternoon of relaxing in the back garden with music.
