Head of Content (Non Executive Officer)


The purpose of the role is io work closely with the Operations Manager and radio operational team to help plan and deliver key elements of the content strategy in regard to radio station, Hospital Radio Chelmsford.


Main duties and responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of people who manage Myriad scheduling, the production of speech content, imaging and PSAs, the music on the Myriad system
  • Increase the creativity and scope of station output, furthering the ‘healthcare’ and ‘community’ content for internet broadcasting
  • Lead creation of a range of downloadable material to showcase output, increase access to output and complement other HRC/charity communication/online media.
  • Meet with the Operations Manager and Head of Output at least monthly so that activity is aligned to deliver the strategic programming aims.


Technical Skills

  • Proficient in all aspects of studio operation, outside broadcast equipment and equipment that can be used to gather broadcast material from outside the studios.
  • Able to use the Myriad scheduler system, automation log, presentation system.
  • Understand methods of production of output material within Myriad, Adobe Audition and other tools available at HRC. Aware of other tools that could be deployed effectively into the service.
  • Able to use other HRC management software.

  • Provides strong leadership of the content team – clearly setting out and communicating what is to be done, and acting to ensure it is delivered.
  • Provides strong leadership of content standards – through their own standards and conduct, and through delivering output that is driven by the vision and strategy. Does not accept ‘second best’ without scope for rapid improvement.
  • Develops resource to deliver the strategy and vision rather than accepting what can be done with the resource currently available.
  • Seeks to develop own skills and the skills of the team, through resources such as HBA training, profession broadcasters’ guidance, written material.
  • Dedicates time to provide critique to content creators.
  • Provides leadership, critique and feedback in a way that positively impacts content creators, motivates and equips them to raise their game.
  • Works positively within the wider management and leadership team.
  • Available, approachable, ethos of caring for patients and our listener base.

Other information
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as required fulfilling the role.
  • Occasional travel required and to transport equipment to and from events.
  • The role is presently not a trustee position on the Committee with attending meetings optional.
