Operations Manager


To work closely with the Committee to help plan and deliver key elements of the charity’s strategy in regard to radio station, Hospital Radio Chelmsford.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Create, communicate and achieve commitment to a vision and strategy for all programming and content on hospital-­‐‑based and internet broadcasting channels, working within the strategic aims and objectives of the charity.
  • Create, communicate and achieve commitment to constantly improving output standards, compelling formats and excellence of output that delivers the strategic programming aims.
  • Set out strategy for the provision of facilities and equipment that facilitates the delivery of Hospital Radio Chelmsford and online operations.
  • To achieve all of the above, work with the Membership Development Officer to ensure that new and existing members are equipped with the skills they need.
  • Lead and manage a team of people including the Head of Output, Head of Content, Head of Music, Chief Engineer and Duty Officers.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and Ofcom requirements, also any contractual obligations entered into by the charity e.g. for programme sponsorship.
  • Manage the request collection rota so that all accessible hospital areas are visited at least once a week.
  • Work with the Committee and other HRC managers / leaders in delivery of these aims. Ensure that programming and output works with all areas of operation and the charity to achieve maximum benefit and delivery of the charitable objectives.
  • Technical Skills
  • Proficient in all aspects of studio operation, outside broadcast equipment and equipment that can be used to gather broadcast material from outside the studios.
  • Able to use other HRC management software.

Other information

  • The role is presently a trustee position on the Committee with obligation to attend meetings.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as required fulfilling the role.
  • Occasional travel required and to transport equipment to and from events.
